About Event

This workshop is designed for board members of nonprofits – and staff members will find it helpful too – seeking to improve board meetings and align them more tightly to the core purpose of the organization.

Learning outcomes for this session:

  • Understand purpose-driven governance and how it improves your board meetings
  • Understand the valuable bits of Robert’s Rules and how to cut through the myths and assumptions to a better place
  • Know some alternatives to Robert and his parliamentary system (emphasis intended) such as using circles, concensus, and consent approaches to decision-making.

What you can expect:

2-hours of exploration, reflection and discussion about approaches to running Board meetings. To get materials, hand-outs, info-graphics and practical tools that are shareable with others in your organization. Meet other nonprofit board members seeking alternatives to same-old-same-old board meetings. Integrate active principles of equity, inclusion and decolonization into how you do governance. Learn about the alternatives to the corporate approach that ties a Board in knots and just isn't any fun.

What you will leave with?

  1. Resources about alternatives to and simplified versions of RRO
  2. Powerpoint and infographics explaining the concepts
  3. Recording of the presentation part of the session
