About Event
Are you a board member of a non-profit? This workshop is for you. Join seasoned consultant and governance-thinker, Alison Brewin, for a 2-hour exploration of great non-profit governance. Experienced, first-time, and serial board members will all find new ways of thinking and valuable tips for strengthening their organization through great governance. This webinar will strip back the assumptions we make about 'best' practice and offer a practical guide to building the Board that fulfills its obligations under the law to 'make decisions according to the purpose of the organization' (BC Societies Act). Instead of asserting the perfect tools or offering an inflexible framework that may not suit you and where you are at, we will learn how to adapt available tools to meet the needs of your organization and your unique purpose in the world.
Great governance depends on your organization's stage of development, size, field of work, revenue streams, and many other things. Board practices that suit a large social services agency may not fit for a small, grass roots youth group, or an association of football fans, or a national advocacy network for migrant workers.
